Porcelain Veneers
Dr. Spivak prides himself in having a vast experience in the cosmetic dental fabrication of Porcelain Veneers. Dr. Spivak, himself has porcelain veneers on his upper front teeth. This was a result from a football accident he suffered at age 11, in 1972. His teeth were first bonded in 1975, later rebonded in 1985 and then he had porcelain veneers placed by his partner in 1990. The original veneers from 1990 are still in place.
Porcelain veneers were first offered to the dental world in mid to late 1980's. Before this, there were different types of compostie or acrylic veneer systems used which were not that successful.
Dr. Spivak, took his first advanced porcelain veneer course in 1989, taught by Dr. Stephen Weinberg, from Den Mat Dental and a fellow University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine graduate. Back in the late 1980's and early 1990's Den Mat corporation called their veneers Cerinate Veneers, today they have changed the naming to the popular term Lumineers. Dr. Spivak completed the Den Mat Lumineer hands on course in 2004. Dr. Harvey Putter, the instructor that day, asked Dr Spivak to sit with him during lunch to exchange their experiences using Cerinate Veneers and Lumineers over the past 14 years.

Matching and Picking a Shade (Color) of the Veneer
Dr. Spivak will either use the Clearmatch Digital Shade Match System or on extremely challenging cases, he will recommend the patient see his ceramist at Thayer Dental lab in Mechanicsburg for a custom shade. Thayer Lab is one of the few dental laboratories in the United States that has a dentist on staff, Dr. Mark Cherewka. Dr. Spivak is on the Adviisory Board for the lab and frequents the lab each month for either Dental Continuing Education Seminars at night or one on one case review with Dr. Cherewka, Craig Yoder (department leader) or Greg Thayer, owner of the laboratory.
Placing custom veneers requires a high degree of technical skill as well as attention to cosmetic detail. We place veneers routinely, and design each case individually to match and enhance the characteristics of each patient's smile.

Refraining from using your veneers as tools to open and cut things will prolong their life, and if accidental breakage or damage occurs, it is usually possible to replace only the veneer involved.
